The Tower Fan That Made Hot Summer Nights So Much More Comfortable
There is so much to love about warm summer days. Long evenings, open windows and that wonderful feeling that there is no need to hurry indoors.
But when the warmth follows you into the bedroom at night, summer can suddenly feel a little less peaceful.
This summer, we bought a tower fan for our bedroom. It was a fairly simple purchase, but it has turned out to be one of those small things that has made a surprisingly big difference to everyday life.
Most of all, it has made sleeping on warm summer nights so much more comfortable.
A gentle breeze instead of a hot bedroom
What I appreciate most is the gentle movement of the air.
The fan can oscillate slowly from side to side, so instead of having a constant stream of air blowing directly at you, a soft breeze moves through the room and passes by every now and then.
There are several settings for both the airflow and the oscillation, which makes it easy to find something comfortable for sleeping.
If I wake for a moment during the night, feeling that little cool breeze pass by is surprisingly lovely.
Quiet enough for sleeping
Before buying a fan for the bedroom, one of my concerns was the noise.
A cooler room is not particularly helpful if the sound of the fan keeps you awake instead.
Fortunately, that has not been a problem for us. We find the sound quiet and unobtrusive at night, and it has never disturbed our sleep.
For us, the combination of gentle airflow, slow oscillation and low noise has worked very well.
The remote control is more useful than I expected
Another small feature I have come to appreciate is the remote control.
Once you are comfortable in bed, the last thing you want to do is get up again because the fan feels slightly too strong or you would like to change a setting.
Being able to adjust everything from bed sounds like a tiny luxury, but it is one I would definitely look for if I were choosing another tower fan.
There was one unexpected benefit...
Our tower fan has also turned out to have another function that I had not considered when we bought it.
The little dust bunnies hiding underneath the bed suddenly find their own way out when the fan is running.
Whether that is a benefit or a problem probably depends on how you look at it. At least there is no longer any mystery about where they have been hiding.
The tower fan we use
The model we bought is the Dreo DR-HTF018 Black Cruiser Pro T1 Tower Fan, which is approximately 106 cm tall.
We chose it because it had the features we wanted while still being reasonably priced. After living with it through warm summer weather, there are a few things I would look for again when choosing a tower fan for a bedroom:
- quiet operation
- several fan speeds
- adjustable oscillation
- a remote control
- a slim design that does not take up too much floor space
The exact model we bought no longer seems to be available on Amazon, but Dreo has other similar tower fans with many of the same features.
If you are looking for one for your own bedroom, I would focus less on finding our exact model and more on comparing the current models for quiet operation, oscillation, speed settings and a remote control.
One simple thing that made summer nights better
I like things for the home that quietly earn their place by making everyday life a little easier or more comfortable.
Our tower fan has become one of those things.
It stands unobtrusively in the bedroom, requires no complicated installation and, on the warmest nights of summer, has made a noticeable difference to how comfortably we sleep.
And when cooler days eventually return, it is simple enough to put away until summer comes around again.
Creating a comfortable home does not always require big changes. Sometimes it is something as simple as a gentle, cool breeze moving through the bedroom on a warm summer night.
